Regional Economic Development Agencies
How Regional Economic Development Agencies spent its budget in fiscal year 2023-24, shown as net expenditures by standard object from Public Accounts Volume II.
Regional Economic Development Agencies groups the federal regional development agencies, which deliver support for business growth, innovation, and community economic development in their respective regions of the country. For this year the grouping comprises the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, Western Economic Diversification, the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, and the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
In the 2023–24 fiscal year, the agencies grouped here spent $2.16B, or 0.4% of total federal spending. This page combines the agencies wherever the Public Accounts reported them that year, whether as standalone ministries or inside a host portfolio.
The Quebec agency accounted for the largest share of spending, followed by the Atlantic, Southern Ontario, and western agencies. The largest transfer payments were contributions under the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program in each region and the Quebec Economic Development Program. FedNor, the northern Ontario initiative, is delivered inside the Department of Industry and is not included here; the Public Accounts do not report it separately.
